Hauwa Mukan was born in Lagos but grew up in US. This Plateau princess could be referred to as Jack of all trades. As a freelance stylist, she has worked with different magazines across Nigeria. She has also worked on different music video sets such as Banky W’s Lagos Party, Maga No Need Pay and others. In addition, Hauwa is a PR consultant and brand representative for Ituen Basi, LOLA NY and Rugged Management. This dark skinned beauty definitely has a lot under her belt.
You are from… Jos, Plateau State but Lagos bred; I’m Angas
You are a… Fashion entrepreneur and journalist. I’m currently working as a radio broadcaster on Smooth 98.1FM. Before that, I worked as a print journalist and moonlighted as a stylist. I have a shoe line of custom-designed sneakers and dabble in photography and art.
Your challenges as a fashion stylist in Lagos… I think the challenges most industries face stem from the lack of basic infrastructure (light, water, good roads, etc), particularly in fashion, it is a general lack of knowledge of the interdependent roles.
Your passion for fashion dates to… My early childhood – making awful sketches on stationery, playing dress up in my mother’s jewellery with my sister and making outfits for my Barbie dolls from my mum’s head ties. Also watching endless hours of fashion on TV. Oh, the good times.
You have been a stylist for… About seven years.
If you were not a fashion stylist or broadcaster… I’d be a fashion gate-keeper; Chairman of the LVMH group (Moet Hennessey Louis Vuitton Group).
Future for you is… Bright and filled with so many exciting things I can’t wait.
You can be best described as… Tall and funny; a blend of elegance and creativity.
Favourite beauty products… Mary Kay facial wash and moisturiser, buff puff sponge, Oil of Olay astringent, Lolita Lempicka perfume. Home-spa routine I shower often and sleep early. I’m not really fussy at all. I’ve never had a spa treatment (covers face in shame)
You unwind by… Turning on some music, have a long bath and follow it up with some ‘coma-like’ sleep.
Favourite shoes designers ….Converse, Adidas, Nike, Salvatore Ferragamo and Christian Louboutin
Oldest item owned… A white Winnie-the-Pooh blanket I’ve had since the 2nd grade.
Your fondest memory…. Winning the backwards race at Inter-house sports in grade 5 and dancing around at a Carlos Santana concert in an ancient Roman Ampitheatre in Nimes France
Things you couldnt do without… Bottle of water, lip-gloss, music and sleep.
Most recent item purchased… Genevieve magazine in traffic
Favourite music… Anything with some good bass; I’m pretty eclectic.
Movies of all time… Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Leon: The Professional, Reservoir Dogs, Gone With the Wind, Ace Ventura When Nature Calls, Coming to America…I can go on and on.
If you were to raid a wardrobe… It would definitely Andre 3000. He’s a sophisticated blend of preppy with a modern urban twist.
Most challenging experience…Starting a business in Nigeria and learning to sustain it.
Life philosophy…Work hard and always remember to give thanks.

Hauwa is gorgeous!
